|In this role, the selected candidate will assist with financial close including journal entry preparation, account reconciliations, audits, analysis, and reporting. LOCATION: Hattiesburg, MSPOSITION OVERVIEW:The Senior Accountant provides assistance with general ledger accounting and financialreporting in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), performs reconciliation of accounts, supports both internal and external audits, and engages in the preparation and review of journal entries. The Staff Accountant will play the primary role in monthly/quarterly/annual closes, leading the development and delivery of ad hoc requests from leadership, and closely supports the General Accounting Manager in all matters as required. The Senior Accountantreports to the General Accounting Manager for Newell Brand’s Accounting Shared Services. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Assist with financial close including journal entry preparation, account reconciliations, audits, analysis, and reporting.Support internal/external audit requirements on a quarterly/annual basis.Responsible for accounting & reporting for Newell Brands business units which may include but is not limited to daily cash forecasting, intercompany, fixed assets, and standard costing.Communicate with various Newell Brands business unit departments and affiliates to obtain necessary information related to monthly close entries and reporting.Various projects requiring development of reports and subsequent analysis utilizing Excel, Access, Showcase, and Hyperion Retrieve.Use initiative to drive process improvements, maintain/review corporate policies/procedure manuals and ensure consistent implementation across business units.Supervise staff accountant within department if applicable.Any other duties as assigned. Supervise Others: YesExpected Travel: Minimal – up to 10%BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: EducationBachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.Experience/KnowledgeMinimum of six (6) years of General Ledger (GL) related experience in an Accounting and/or Finance related role required.Minimum of three (3) years of public accounting and/or US publicly traded company experience in an Accounting or Finance role required.Strong knowledge of US GAAPrequired.Minimum of intermediate level experience with MS Excel required.Minimum of intermediate level proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook) required.Must be eligible to work in the United States for any employer.Certifications/Licenses/RegistrationsNonePreferred Qualifications:MBA with a focus in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred.Four (4) or more years of public accounting and/or US publicly traded company experience in an Accounting or Finance role preferred.Experience in Sarbanes – Oxley (SOX) audits preferred.Systems experience: Database software (Access, Showcase, etc.) Hyperion (HFM), and SAP or JD Edwards (AS400) experiencepreferred.Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel preferred.Experience with Visual Basic (VBA) Macros preferred.Experience functioning within a strong matrix environment of a global enterprise highly preferred.Competencies:Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of corporate accounting and GAAP:Technology Skills – proficiency with Hyperion, proficiency with one or more ERPs.Strong Analytical Skills – Intermediate to Advanced proficiency with Excel.Systems – proficiency with database, query, and reporting software (MS Access, Showcase, etc.)Judgement and Decision Making: Ability to evaluate situations and reach logical conclusions.Problem Solving: Propose ideas, find new and better ways of doing things.
