Position Summary: Under general direction of the Lead Project/Construction Manager, the Construction Field Inspector performs quality assurance inspections, reviews quality testing reports, and monitors progress of construction operations in support of OSP Fiber projects in rural Alaska.
Duties, Skills, and Knowledge: • Communicates daily with the Lead Project and Construction Managers on assigned work relating to engineering construction projects. • Primarily functions as a construction field inspector. • Performs quality assurance inspections of received construction material, or subcontractor supplied construction material to ensure the material conforms to contract specification for type, condition, and quality. • Witnesses quality control testing and reviews reports performed by analytical and testing labs on received or subcontractor supplied construction materials to ensure the material conforms to contract specifications for type, condition, and quality. • Assures subcontractor compliance with architectural/engineering stamped designs and specifications. • Assists the Construction Engineers in monitoring subcontractor compliance with regulatory construction codes, such as the Universal Building Code, International Fire Code, National Electrical Code, etc. • Participates in the development, review, and maintenance of schedules, inspection plans, health and safety plans, and reports for construction projects in collaboration with subcontractors. • Coordinates with contractors on a regular basis to assure the Scope of Work is followed and ensures materials, equipment, and personnel provided are sufficient in order to complete the project on schedule and within budget. • Utilizes drawings, design manuals, regulations, technical reference manuals, construction contracts, and other documents in performance of job duties. • Knowledge of building, piping, mechanical, fire, electrical and other applicable regulatory codes. • Ability to read and evaluate design drawings, engineering plans and specifications, and technical schematics. • Prepares clear and concise reports on daily activities, progress, and inspection. • Analyzes and researches data in the course of defining and resolving problems. • Experienced with analyzing problems, evaluating alternatives, and formulating logical solutions. • Must be able to work effectively with the Client staff. • Able to create a work environment fostering teamwork and professionalism, a spirit of service and responsibility, plus a high standard of ethics. • Able to establish and maintain effective working relations with co-workers and representatives from other local, state and federal agencies. • Able to communicate verbally and in writing effectively and present information to the construction management team. • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications Required Minimum Qualifications and Physical Requirements: • Able to assess and prioritize multiple tasks, projects, and demands. • Employee must possess a high school diploma/GED and demonstrated equivalent professional experience and capabilities with a minimum five to ten years similar experience in construction field inspection of civil, electrical, telecommunications, and or mechanical engineering projects or related projects. • Recognized technical inspection certifications are a plus. May be required to obtain specific technical certifications. • Proficient in software programs such as Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Teams and Smartsheets. • Employee may be required to work outside the traditional work schedule. • A valid Drivers License and good driving record required. • Must be able to lift approximately 40 pounds. • Employee will be required to spend significant time working at remote construction sites and be frequently exposed to hazardous working environments with heavy machinery and extreme weather conditions.
