Ketchikan Public Utilities (KPU) is a state-of-the-art service provider located in Ketchikan Alaska. With cutting edge Fiber to the Premise, IP TV, Hosted Telephone, and 4G LTE, we are one of the most exciting providers in the country. KPU is looking for an experienced Installation & Repair Technician to join our team.
Job Summary: Under minimal supervision perform basic to advanced installation, troubleshooting, and repair of KPU’s Residential services (Voice, IPTV, High Speed Internet), using ADSL, VDSL, or FTTx technologies. Complete disconnects, downgrades, upgrades, reconnects, and installations as business needs dictate.
Duties and Responsibilities: • Demonstrate excellent customer service in dealing directly with subscribers and the public • Perform a variety of telecommunications installation, maintenance, and repair work o ADSL, VDSL, FTTx • Test and diagnose a variety of technical telecommunications equipment • Use and operate a variety of vehicles, heavy and light power driven tools and equipment, and hand tools required to work in a safe and efficient manner. • Operate and work from aerial buckets. • Climb poles and work around power lines. • Work independently in the absence of supervision. • Perform a variety of tasks in diverse weather conditions for extended periods of time. • Read and interpret work orders, circuit diagrams, and other drawings. • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
Requirements: • Excellent customer service skills • 4 years of installation and repair experience at a service provider (Cable, Telephone); 8 Years + preferred • Extensive experience in home networking and home computing highly preferred • Knowledge and experience with IPTV • A Commercial Driver’s License (Must be obtained within six months of employment)
