Manager, Telecom Network Engineering in North Carolina. Remote is not an option for this position.

Purpose of Position:

Responsible for assisting with the coordination of fiber projects related to the planning, design and engineering of broadband communication systems. Leads a team of professionals that provides tactical and management support for ISP/OSP Architectures & Design, Network Engineering, Fiber Construction, and operational support to the Project Management Office. Responsible for planning, organizing, and managing systems engineering functions for the Engineering Services (ES) Group. Plans new technology innovation and new features supporting customer operations, and facilitating team performance. Meets the systems engineering needs of future projects, directing activities to meet customer requirements, improving existing applications; and, implementing new process efficiencies to reduce costs and enhance customer satisfaction. Manages team which may include exempt and non-exempt employees. Serves as a subject matter expert providing guidance to internal and customer teams. Has overall responsibility for development of and administration of performance standards for Design team.

Major Responsibilities - Ongoing Tasks:

Provides leadership, coaching and management of the engineering organization.
Plans to meet and/or exceed the operational and financial requirements of ES Operations.
Keeps abreast of the cable industry and upcoming projects to determine the means to implement changes in the existing network to accommodate technology, features and functionality. Has in-depth experience, knowledge and acts as SME for internal sales, Market Development, and Product groups
Meets with project stakeholders to analyzecomplex business needs and determine proper architecture, design requirements, operational specifications and implementation standards.
Reviews and estimates design costs and assist in generating project packages for construction including design prints, bill of materials, and materials/equipment ordering information. Aids in preparation of bid sheets and contracts.
Creates systems engineering (SE) standards, tools and processes by reviewing documentation and participating in SE organizations.
Evaluates new and evolving technology for applicability and impact on operational goals.
Consistent exercise of independent judgment and discretion in matters of significance.
Collaborates with outside vendors in developing design criteria and preparing layout and detail drawings. Develops criteria and performance specifications required to meet unique operating requirements, building codes and safety codes.
Prepares special keys, charts, diagrams, and graphic drawings for use by other departments. Updates and maintains system maps, keys, and design files. Tracks and keeps current system/project spreadsheets and documents.

Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Equipment Used:

Personal computer, MS Office applications, MS Project application, SharePoint and AutoCAD/Internal design systems.

Knowledge & Skill Requirements:

Bachelor of Science Degree in an technical field from a recognized College or University.

Technical writing ability, with emphasis on effective presentation of detailed concepts.
Strong interpersonal skills to support customer interface, consultative activities and work as part of a commercial team.
Experience with AutoCAD and other design software packages
10+ years of Knowledge and experience with fiber networks
10+ years team leadership experience, including leadership in a planning and/or Engineering role
Additional Requirements:

Person must be willing to remain in this position for a minimum of two years
Willing to travel 50% of the time.
Experience in Capital Planning and Project/Operational P&L management
