Georgia Public Web, Inc. (GPW), an Atlanta based technology solutions company, seeks an experienced VP/CTO. The VP/CTO is responsible for the leadership and direction of the operations team to attain the assigned goals of the Operations Department.
The VP/CTO is responsible for the overall success and accuracy of all operational aspects of GPW’s Ethernet, SONET and ISP networks, along with its IT business and professional service product set. This position directly manages a professional workforce including professionals in Information Technology, Engineering, Networking and teams of Field Technicians, and Network Operations Center personnel. The VP/CTO will insure that customer complaints are resolved promptly and professionally in a satisfactory manner, coordinating with other departments as required. This position reports directly to the President/Chief Executive Officer.
Responsible for establishing current and long-range direction of technology aimed at keeping the organization on the forefront of change. Generally, this may include the analysis of purchased systems, hardware and software, or the internal design and development of hardware and software systems. Dispenses technical advice, guidance, direction, and authorization to carry out major plans and procedures. Coordinates the design, development, marketing, and maintenance of technology projects or product lines. Analyzes new technologies and runs competitive analyses. Promotes the interfacing and control of the company's present technology and the dissemination of technological information throughout the organization.
Responsibilities: • Customer Care and Service • Network Management • Field Operations • Engineering and Construction • Provisioning • Support and Development of ISP Products and Services • IT Operations and Support • Product Development • Support major product sets: -ISP products with multiple BGP-balanced, upstream providers at multiple NAPs -SONET-based point-to-point services, from T-1 through OC-48 -Ethernet services up to 100Gb • Provide leadership, management and technical direction to direct reports as well as all subordinate operations staff -Responsible for timely and accurate completion of personnel related reports and development activities which include performance reviews and evaluations; succession planning; attendance; expense reports; training; industry certifications; etc. -Ensures that staff is qualitatively and quantitatively adequate to meet daily job requirements through management of training, time off and leave -Ensure policies and procedures are maintained • Promptly and professionally resolves customer complaints, issues, and discrepancies in a satisfactory manner, coordinating with other departments as required • Develops numerical benchmarks for measuring operations success in various areas, such as productivity, overtime, network availability, order processing, etc. • Develops, monitors and meets departmental budget, financial, and contingency plans • Keeps Senior Staff advised of operations, procedures, specific problems and ongoing situations related to the operations of the business. • Report periodically to the Board of Directors as to the status of Network Operations
Skills and Abilities: • Have proficiency in network protocol concepts, including but not limited to, SDH/SONET, Ethernet, and IP • Ability to manage other personnel, including the management of managers and supervisors • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite – Word, Excel, and Visio; PowerPoint/Project • Familiar with Project Management principles • Proficient with accounting and general business practices, particularly as they relate to budgeting and business planning • Excellent oral and written English communication skills • Must be able to read printed documentation and computer screens • Must be able to operate standard office machinery such as personal computers/laptops, copiers, and telephones • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a fluid, high-stress environment • Must have good organizational skills with attention to detail • Must be able to operate an automobile and perform occasional auto travel, possibly overnight
Education/Experience: BS degree, preferably in a technical or engineering field, and 12 years experience in a telecommunications role (preferably with fiber optic networks and/or CLECs) with increasing responsibilities including at least five years in an Operations environment or a minimum of 15 years executive operations management in telecommunications (preferably with fiber optic networks and/or CLECs).
Certification: Certifications from Cisco, Juniper, Nokia, Optelian or equivalent training is preferred.
