BASIC JOB FUNCTION: Responsible for the design and optimization of new and existing wireless sites while meeting capacity and coverage needs. This role maximizes network performance by proactively identifying and resolving system performance affecting issues in the voice and data network. The RF engineer analyzes drive test data, network performance metrics, and customer complaints to engineer air interface configurations to improve network performance.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities: • Design system, based on variable inputs to provide maximum coverage, capacity and performance. • Perform detailed analysis of network performance metrics and drive test data to identify trends and anomalies in network performance. • Use post processing tools and propagation modeling software to analyze system performance and aid in system design. • Turn up new cell sites, making sure site is properly integrated into the network and optimized for peak performance. • Perform frequency planning. • Perform drive tests of the network and analyzes results. • Provide recommendations of RF parameter settings based on vendor recommendations. • Optimize system performance through selection of Parameter settings, antenna adjustments, power levels, and other approved engineering techniques. • Monitors system performance indicators such as dropped calls, blocked calls, origination failures, handoff failures, review capacity reports and forecast for short and long term site/system requirements. • Comply with all applicable wireless legal requirements including FCC filings, FAA filings, neighbor market coordination, and Maximum Permissible Exposure guidelines. • Other tasks and responsibilities as required.
Education, Certification and /or Training Qualifications:
Required: • BS in Electrical or Electronics Engineering or related BS in Technological Discipline required. • Minimum 5 years experience in PCS/Cellular RF Engineering. • Minimum 3 years experience using computer design propagation tools. • Proficiency in computer programming language (Visual Basic, Basic). • Advanced computer skills to include Excel, Word, Access, Windows XP, etc. • Strong communication and interpersonal skills. • Strong computer skills. • Ability to work flexible hours, under pressure, and to produce excellent results with little to no supervision. • Demonstrated ability to do the job. • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record. • Ability to work long hours, including occasional nights and weekends, with physical requirements of lifting 25 pounds, operating a keyboard, bending, walking, sitting and standing for extended periods of time.
Preferred: • Hands on experience with GSM, WCDMA (HSPA+), LTE, technology in PCS and AWS bands strongly preferred. • Previous PCS buildout experience preferred. • Previous experience in a UNIX environment preferred. • Nokia equipment background a plus. • Previous experience with MapInfo, Actix, Planet, Optimi, and TEMS a plus.
