Consolidated, a cooperative in Central Ohio dedicated to improving the quality of life for our members and communities, has an immediate need for an Outside Plant (OSP) Designer responsible for staking and creating plans and specifications using CAD and/or ESRI-based mapping software.
Knowledge of all phases of OSP design & familiarity with fiber placement & splicing techniques required.
*Apply engineering design standards to underground and aerial pole line cable plant *Create and execute work orders to include plans and specifications for OSP facilities while meeting quality, time and budget constraints. *Visually identify, inspect, and perform field audits of existing OSP activities and acquire necessary field data. *Designs cost effective line setup and staking specifications and cable and line extensions using GIS and CAD, along with associated integration software including designing and developing OSP equipment installation, modifications, and upgrades. *Collaborate with others (civil authorities, clients, contractors, project managers, other engineers, designers, drafters, administration) to devise best network solutions, assist in permitting, and obtaining right-of-way use approval. *Conducts job estimating activities and prices out job components. *Responsible for creating and processing joint use proposals and follow up as needed. *Responsible for all as-built changes and updates to drawings and map databases.
*Two-year technical degree (minimum) is required. Four years of telecommunication design and GIS experience may be substituted for each year of post-secondary education. *Two years of ESRI mapping experience required. CAD desired. *Knowledge of the telecommunications industry required including knowledge of construction and planning procedures. Utility background is preferred, with emphasis on design and construction of underground and overhead fiber systems. *Proven ability to deal with governing authorities and their requirements, negotiate with private land owners and provide instruction and guidance as needed to contractors. *Ability to develop, read, and comprehend engineering schematics in multiple formats to expedite and facilitate design and work order processes. *Strong oral and written communications skills. *Working knowledge of Word, Excel, and data analysis software. *A valid driver’s license.
