The OSP Field Engineer supports field engineering services through the highly detailed collection of information from job sites. Creates project designs, estimates costs, identifies appropriate materials and equipment, creates drawings, and estimates project timelines, for the placement of fiber optic cables, poles, conduit, transmission equipment and associated electronics. The OSP Field Engineer creates designs based on current and past network architectures. The OSP Field Engineer should be proficient in conduit, manhole, hand hole, underground, submarine, buried and aerial construction methods.
Duties and Responsibilities:
-Strategically plan out new builds, overbuilds due to growth of the company -Creates OSP fiber surveys on tablets to be sent to drafters -Design routes for fiber-based services. Point to point, and distribution in residential/commercial areas -Researches existing databases, files and records for purposes of network design, optimization and placement of fiber facilities to include cable, -HUBS and terminals -Estimates and provides design schematics of path, distances and quantity of splicing work to be performed for fiber projects -Establishes and maintains effective communications and professional working relationships with customers, internal and external teams. -Identification of potential obstructions -Proficiency in reading maps, blueprints or technical drawings -Experience conducting site surveys preferred -Noting any foreseeable issues with neighborhoods, general roadblocks or possible unsafe conditions -Take photographs of unusual situations -Notes must assist engineering to detect any design issues in aerial, buried, and underground fiber or copper cable facilities
-High school diploma or equivalent required, AS or BS degree in technical field preferred -Valid State Driver’s License -Willing to learn new technologies -Requires a minimum of two (2) years’ experience in the telecommunications industry. -Requires ability to function independent of a supervisor -Must be safety-oriented -Experienced in the use of office productivity tools; Microsoft Office Suite and Google Earth And AutoCAD, ARC-GIS a plus. -Proficient with standard office equipment -Proficient knowledge of design techniques, tools and the ability to function independently -Proficient analytical, organizational, and time management skills, including the ability to effectively prioritize assignments -Good knowledge of Fiber Network Design preferred
-Outdoors and office with work hours dependent on the needs of the project -Will be outdoors in all kinds of weather
-Walking routes, driving, travel as needed to get to the project.
